This last week has been a bit tough for me.  I have received, it seems at every turn, news of a death, a disease or mental illness diagnosis, a divorce or an estranged relationship.  This journey we call life is not an easy one.

In our culture we seem to place such a great emphasis on the importance of being happy that when we hit these challenges, many of us can become completely derailed.  Do we somehow believe we can out run the hard times?  Have we forgotten that there is always dark and light?

We ask, “how can this have happened?”  We have cultivated what seems to be an all or nothing attitude.  “This horrible thing happened and now my life is ruined.”  (more…)

This month in the studio, I have been diving into the concepts of Appreciation, Gratitude and Kindness – sharing quotes and conversations on the mat and looking at their impact in my own life.

It seems such a simple thing appreciation and gratitude; saying thank you, saying hello, listening and acknowledging, focusing on what we have rather than what we do not, noticing what is good and wonderful in our lives.
